Tata Nano prices up by Rs 9,000

Tata Motors has hiked the price of its mini-car, the Tata Nano, by Rs 9,000, with effect from November 01, 2010. The company said in a statement that the average increase in the car’s price would be Rs 9,000, and that prices would differ from city to city and variant to variant. The hike, attributable mainly to rising input costs, will be applicable to both new orders and old bookings that do not fall under the first one lakh orders selected by lot. Tata Motors had earlier hiked the Nano’s prices in July 2010.
The company recently began open sales of the car in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal. It will complete the first 1 lakh orders by the end of 2010, after which the car will be available off-the-shelf across the country. Meanwhile, the Sanand plant will be ready to operate at its full capacity of 2.5 lakh units by the end of FY 2010-2011.
